Cavities are very troublesome. They can harm your smile and even cause extreme pain and discomfort. This is why it’s important to prevent them at all costs. When you have braces, there are certain things you need to do to prevent cavities, and our orthodontist, Dr. Frank Iuorno, is happy to tell you all about them.
First, brush your teeth frequently. For the best results possible, it’s recommended to brush after breakfast, lunch, and dinner as well as before bed. Doing so can immediately remove the cavity-causing bacteria from your teeth and braces. Because you will brush so often, make sure to replace your toothbrush when necessary.
Second, floss your teeth at least once a day. If you can floss more often, do it! Flossing can also remove those cavity-causing substances that hide in the small nooks and crannies of your teeth and braces. If you have a hard time flossing, feel free to try dental floss that has stiff ends. This can help you easily maneuver the floss.
Third, have a healthy and balanced diet. You can do so by avoiding sugary and acidic foods and drinks as well as staying hydrated by drinking plenty of water. You can also eat more tooth-healthy foods, like dairy products, vegetables, and fruits.
